Welcome, Little One!

Yesterday at 1:31 am, my best friend had a little baby girl, and so I left straight from work with my mom and Owen to go and visit.  Her son is just a few weeks older than Owen, and she had warned me not to “copy” her again this time…  in fact I think that was one of the first things she said to me after telling me she was expecting!  Ha!  Been there, done that (twice), and I think I’m done.

Her new daughter is just absolutely precious and this gives me an excuse to FINALLY make that pink and purple quilt that I bought the fabric for back in 2004.  Two sons and several nephews later, I can finally claim a niece of my own!  About time.

Mom and baby are both doing great and may even be coming home today.  I was worried that Owen might act jealous if he saw me holding a different baby, but he took one look at the little girl in my arms and immediately leaned out of his grandma’s arms to give her kisses.  It was so sweet!  Not only did he take several oppotunities to kiss her and tickle her feet, he really wanted to hold her!  He’d reach his arms out and since we wouldn’t let him hold her alone, he’d just put his arms around her and smooch on her some more.

I’m so very excited for the new mom and her entire family, and can’t wait to visit again once they are all back home and settled in.  And once she’s feeling up to it, I’m taking her out for margaritas!

Progress, I think.

I’ve gotten distracted from my goal of making a base pattern for a knitted top.  Mainly because I do not like sewing with knit fabrics.  At all.  I don’t have the patience or the proper tools, and I’d just rather create with woven fabrics in any case.

I had a few hours yesterday afternoon while Owen napped and I cut out a skirt.  I used a fabric that I just loved in the store but hated the moment it came out of the wash.  (I hate when that happens…  but when you buy cheap fabric you never know what you’ll get!)  I was actually impressed with how it sewed; the seams, darts, and zipper all look good.

However, the skirt pattern doesn’t.  I’ve already repositioned the waistband in the back to address the swayback, and that is better.  But I’m thinking that I’ll rip the zipper out and toss the project rather than go further.

Ah well.  But I guess it’s still progress.  You have to make mistakes in order to learn from them!
